The board plays a complex but vital role in the success of any organisation and understanding its functions is the responsibility of any effective existing or aspiring board member, or for those that currently report into the board.
This course equips participants with the tools and knowledge to make an impactful contribution, interact effectively with board members and achieve long-term success. It considers the relationships between the key board members, the board itself and the committees and other stakeholders, both internal and external. It discusses what makes an effective board and the role that board evaluations can play in continuously improving performance.
It will cover the importance of succession planning and participants will gain a holistic understanding of how to prepare a truly effective board.
This course counts as 4 CPD hours of learning and may be taken individually or as part of the full 16-hour programme.

Lesley Stephenson is the Publisher of the Financial Times Board Director Programme and also of the Financial Times Non-Executive Director Diploma.
She has specialised in corporate governance since publishing the Cadbury Report on behalf of the London Stock Exchange in 1992. Lesley has written for the International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN), the European Corporate Governance Institute and the ICAEW NED Special Interest Group.
She has been the Publisher of the Club since 2003, she was the driving force behind the development of the FT NED Diploma and continues to oversee it.
