The role of the CEO is absolutely pivotal to the success of any company. Appointing a new CEO is probably the single most important decision any board member will make.
CEO attrition rate in the UK is running at 15-20% pa, the average CEO is in position for under 5 years so the likelihood of being involved in the recruitment of a new CEO is high. Only 50% of boards think they’ve made a good appointment after 18 months.
There are many costs associated with making the wrong appointment. There will be negative fallout across the team and you may lose good talent because of the associated demotivation. Not only can hiring the wrong CEO have a negative effect on the stock price and shareholder value but it can also be very expensive in terms of the severance package for the failed appointee. Perhaps most importantly, you lose time and opportunities. 18 months after embarking on an unsuccessful appointment, the business has lost momentum.
This highly interactive workshop will take you through all the processes involved in making the right CEO appointment. Using practical exercises It will show you how to see through the persona that candidates put on when being interviewed. It will help you to focus on using data rather than gut instinct, to interpret the data presented to you during the interview and to identify what might be a red flag that would make an appointment the wrong one. It will also offer recommendations as to what type of skills and attributes can be coached that might be missing at the start.
