Claire is the founder and Managing Director of CoSecutive Ltd, an independent governance consultancy  based in the UK. She is a qualified solicitor and chartered company secretary with over 30 years’  experience in legal, compliance and company secretarial roles, principally in Banking and Financial  Services. Claire has extensive experience of working on governance matters with boards, often during  challenging times eg due to crisis, restructuring or organisational transformation. 

After specialising in banking at a City law firm, Claire moved in-house to take up various legal and  compliance roles in Financial Services firms, eventually moving to EY’s Risk & Regulatory practice where  she was a Director. She later moved back in-house to take up the position of Group Company Secretary  at Legal & General Group plc, a role that she subsequently held at Lloyds Banking Group (during the  banking crisis), Barclays plc and the Co operative Group where she led the implementation of the  constitutional and governance reforms in response to the Co-op’s well-publicised difficulties.  

Since setting up her consultancy in January 2018, Claire has worked on various governance related  projects with a number of high profile clients in the Financial Services sector including RBS/NatWest,  HSBC, Santander UK, Nationwide Building Society and M&G plc. Alongside her governance work,  Claire provides guidance and training to company secretaries and board members on a range of matters  designed to improve board effectiveness eg board induction, board composition and succession, running  effective meetings, agenda planning, improving board papers and minute taking.  

Claire was previously a non-executive at HM Government’s Dept of Business, Energy and Industrial  Strategy (BEIS) where she was a member of the Audit & Risk Committee. Claire is a member of a  number of corporate governance groups and a regular speaker at events. She previously served as a  member of the FRC’s Stakeholder Panel and was a member of the Sounding Board to the Wates Corporate  Governance Code.
