Board Crisis Simulation Asia Bespoke Programme

Overview of the PROGRAMME

Crises can be planned for. A crisis simulation will help boards obtain a better view of those variables and how to manage them more effectively. Whether COVID-19 and other recent crises have exposed potential shortcomings, or a board wishes to test specific policies and procedures that have been put in place, a simulation will help bring this to life and help prepare your company for the future, knowing that the board is better prepared for a crisis.

Each board crisis simulation that we conduct is developed in-house, by the facilitators, and is customised to each board's specific organisation. The scenarios which unfold over the course of a two or three-hour simulation, are based upon the real world observations of our facilitators. They are designed to engage boards in crisis situations which are not normally encountered in quarterly board meetings.

LEARNING METHOD

Each board crisis simulation that we conduct is developed in-house, by the facilitators, and is customised to each board's specific organisation. The scenarios which unfold over the course of a two or three-hour simulation, are based upon the real world observations of our facilitators. They are designed to engage boards in crisis situations which are not normally encountered in quarterly board meetings.

  • Preparation Meeting - facilitators will coordinate with the Company Secretary, or another designated point of contact, to customise a crisis simulation that is appropriate for your organisation.

  • Introduction - facilitators will introduce the board members to the premise of the simulation, the tools they will use, roles they will assume (generally the same role as they have on the board) and provide insight into the actions they will be asked to perform, during the simulation.

  • Theme Established - each board simulation will have an underlying theme. Before we ask the board members to begin addressing the crisis, we will establish why the particular theme of the simulation is relevant to the board and stakeholders.

  • Inputs - inputs or scenarios will account for the far majority of the board member's thought and effort, during the simulation. Information and findings, which simulate real world situations, will be presented to the board and they will be asked to consider, discuss, debate and/or conclude, based upon the inputs.

  • Debrief - at the conclusion of the simulation, we will ask the board members to consider how effective they were at addressing the inputs and to share their thoughts. When appropriate, the facilitators will provide best practices and their opinions on any unanswered questions.

  • Follow up - While the discussions during the simulation are not recorded, we will provide the Board with a gap analysis based on our observations as well as recommendations to be in line with best practices.
